![[ Light :: Salk Institute, La Jolla, CA :: Louis Kahn ]](Kahn_Salk2.jpg) |
| "...Light is really the source of all being.... [A]ll
material in nature, the mountains and the streams and the air
and we, are made of Light which has been spent, and this crumpled mass
called material casts a shadow, and the
shadow belongs to Light."(Lobell, p.22) |

| Notes: I thought about trimming this picture to remove the
material at each side, to give the illusion that my picture was a direct photograph of Kahn's
Salk Institute for Biological Studies (1959-66, La Jolla, California),
and not a picture of a picture in a [House and Garden, ca. 1990] magazine. But I decided against this,
on principle of truthfulness, and also because I like what looks somewhat like a Torah
scroll roll at left side, and a piece of a Clyfford Still painting at right side. |
