Relatively inexpensive housing is available nearby for housestaff. Popular areas of the Bronx to live include City Island (overlooking Long Island Sound), Riverdale (overlooking the Hudson River), and Pelham Parkway; however, many housestaff choose to live in Queens, Manhattan, Westchester, or New Jersey.

St. Barnabas Hospital is self-insured to cover claims of physician malpractice, including claims against medical interns and residents. This insurance includes a "tail" for claims brought after residents leave the program.
