Daily Schedules and Teaching In the morning, after receiving sign out from the night float, interns begin work rounds with the junior resident. Teaching attending rounds are generally held after work rounds, and at 11:00 a.m., the junior residents go to morning report. At morning report, the junior residents present their recent admissions, and clinical issues are discussed with the Chief Medical Resident and one of the teaching faculty. At noon time, all residents attend a daily teaching conference. |
|
The noon time teaching conferences are frequently case related, and are given by one of the residents, general medical or subspecialty teaching attendings. A light lunch is provided at many noontime conferences. In the afternoon, interns may have new admissions or Continuity Office Practice to attend. Sign out rounds take place at about 5:00 p.m. to the "on-call" housestaff, and any interns or residents "on-call" sign out to the "night floats" at about 9:30 p.m. Medical Grand Rounds are held on Thursday mornings, at which time a buffet breakfast is provided, and the week is ended with our traditional attending-house staff TGIF party. The Hospital strongly supports full compliance with the ACGME and NY State Department of Health regulations regarding credentialing, supervision, and work hour limitations for residents. This means that residents are rarely on call more often than every 4th day, utilize a night float system, and are scheduled for at least one 24 hour period free of any call. |
