The CODE consists of 2 or
more parts: FIRST is the 3 letter designation of the BREED, Like SIA for
Siamese, ORS for oriental shorthair etc. Should be 3 letters upper case. then a
space the the COLOR letter (n for black/seal, a for blue etc) single letter
lower case. Then a space (sometimes omitted) and IF necessary (no pattern
designation is a solid) a numeric pattern designation. (for example SIA n 21,
where the 21 indicates a tabby with an uspecified pattern as in a POINTED tabby
where the actual pattern is not easily discernable.
In specific cases there may be exceptions or additions to this pattern of
codes. Silvers may come in several varieties such as ORS b s (chocolate smoke)
or ORS n s 23 (black/silver mackerel tabby) which may make the color more than
one letter. OR: ORS B 03/24 (Oriental sh chocolate and white bicolor spotted
tabby) which may have more than one pattern designation. But for the most part
thes codes are very simple
This year the FIFe GA accepted the pointed bicolors As Seychellois which
are really Siamese with a bicolor pattern to pacify the rabid purists that were
against having bicolor Siamese. Except for the name these are bicolor Siamese
and can breed as such with the non-bicolor offspring being registreed as a
SIamese. In shows the breeds will be separate but still in the same catagory
(IV).
This subset of the EMS list eliminates many breeds outside the CAT IV group and
many designations not applicable to this group of cats. Full list:http://www.fifeweb.org/wp/breeds/breeds_ems.html
