Get Good Audio--For Free!
In the beginning was the word. Now the word can be heard on the Internet for free! What's really great is that it's available on demand--listen any time of the day (or night) that is right for you. Sure you have to listen to a few promotion spots...but the price is right. Try some of these gems available from Broadcast.com (previously AudioNet):
Listen to the World's Greatest Speeches (http://www.broadcast.com/speeches/)
Get coverage of the 1998 Writers' Roundtable Conference in Dallas (http://www.broadcast.com/books/writers_roundtable.stm)
Catch the latest U.S. State Department press briefings (http://www.broadcast.com/events/usstate/)
Be an armchair traveler with Visions, the World Traveler, if your schedule won't let you get away (http://www.broadcast.com/books/visions.stm)
Have a disabled person in your family for whom reading is a challenge or just feeling to lazy to turn pages? Try AudioBooks--over 500 full length audio books you can listen to for free.
And though I hate to publicize my own favorite secret, Broadcast.com also has more than 2,000 full length CDS in the Audio Jukebox (http://www.broadcast.com/jukebox/formats/). Great way to hear your favorites or try out new artists while you work!
Some other good sources for free interviews of prominent figures and popular authors, as well as business information include:
To hear these programs, you will need a computer with audio capabilities, a connection to the Internet (28.8 baud rate or faster), and in most cases, a Real Media player (http://www.real.com) --software that can be downloaded for free.
